Question by Roy G: What are some things to do in New York City?
Me and my friend both live in New York City and now that it is the summer, we have completely nothing to do. I mean there seems to be a lot of things to do but doesn’t seem to be of huge interest for us.
Can you guys list some things that we can do in New York City that may be of interest for us that is free or doesn’t cost to much or something?
P.S. We’re both high school students

Well there are a lot of dining options. Here in Brooklyn, there are a few restaurants I’ve been to since I was a little kid (Junior’s on Flatbush and Willoughby, Two Steps Down on Dekalb and Clermont, Li Chi Nut on Montague). Also you can try golfing out by the Atlantic Ocean, or go to the beach in Long Island. Times Square has lots of interesting places, just take a look around there and you’ll find something that interests you. Go for a ride on the Staten Island Ferry (free) or if you’d like something faster, try The Beast speedboat (~$ 20 for half an hour). Some of my favorite childhood memories include going out to the movies on Court Street, and going to Lichee Nut after. If you like, I can show you around (I’m 22 btw) :]
If you really want to do something exciting, you can for an introductory flight lesson at Farmingdale or Long Island-MacArthur (where I’m about to start taking flight lessons since I’m in the aviation program at my college). That should cost you under $ 100, and you’ll be able to bring a friend along if you ask for permission before you get there.

I am traveling from the New York area to Heathrow next summer around June/July and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of the best or least expensive airline?
If I bought plane tickets in mid-May for late June-July, about how much would they cost? I can’t buy them any earlier, because I’m not 18 yet.

Well, your best bet is to first find out which hotels have availability for the dates you want to stay, and then which ones of those are in your price range.
You can do that here: http://www.resideo.com/us/newyork/lakegeorge/ — click the “Check Availability” button, choose your dates, submit the form, then sort the results by price (that’ll put the cheapest places first).
Then…once you have a list of the hotels that are in your price range, look them up over at tripadvisor.com and read reviews, etc.
Once you’ve decided on which one is ‘perfect’ for you, go back and book it online!
I took a look, and if you can, go with the Wingate by Wyndham — I’ve stayed at a few of that chains properties in different cities and have been very pleased. Also check the Comfort Suites — ranks #3 over at tripadvisor, and will probably have decent rates.

If it shipped USPS Priority Mail should be 2 days, Parcel Post or Media Mail 7 days.

I am bringing my daughter and her friend to New York City for Halloween weekend… What are some things to do. We will fly there on Friday morning and leave Sunday night… We are going to a football game on Saturday. What are some things we can do when we aren’t doing anything???

Check out the Halloween parade in the village. Take her trick or treating. Shop and eat pumpkin baked good, I recommend a cupcake shop like Crumbs. Find a crafting event.

Next month i’ll go to Washington DC, but my flight lands at JFK (NYC). I need to know how to get from NY to DC…i’ll be by myself and don’t wanna be worried about that!

My friend, from JFK Airport, take a taxi to Penn Station in Midtown, Manhattan, where a connection can be made to Amtrak rail services to Washington, DC.
The taxi fare from the airport to the train station will cost you $ 45, while the one way fare on the Amtrak from New York City (Penn Station) to Union Station in Washington, DC will range in price from $ 80 to $ 200 one way, depending on the train you’re taking and the time of day you’re traveling.

Alright so in 2 Days, Im going up to New York for a few days. Ive never been there before. What are some good restaurants in the City? Im not looking for 5 Star fancy restaurants I just want maybe a small little restaurant. The only one i am planning on going to right now is Katz’s Deli, Any other suggestions? Thanks guys!

Ellen’s Stardust diner in times square has always been a favorite of mine. The waitresses sing and dance and do a lot of cool stuff!! Plus its a diner, so it’s not fancy, like you want.
btw, I LOVE Kat’s Delicatessen! It has the BEST pastrami worldwide!

I am out of country right now and do not have access to a physical copy of the New York Times, nor did I find an easy online source to let me know! I need to cite an article located on WK10 in the New York edition of the NYT, printed on March 29th, 2009.
