Question by linda t: overstayed vietnam visa by 4 days…no idea what to expect when leave tomorrow..?
lost track of time, after a cple overnigth buses, by the time i go to to hanoi , was the lst day od visa, but as already extended once, wsa told it would cost between 100 and 200 dolars to extend again!! being that i only needed a few more days and couldnt get a straight answer from anyone i thought it best to get teh cheapest flight out, as very very low in cash, which means tomorrow wehn i fly out to singapore wlil be 4 days overstayed, was told that it wud be 5 dollars a day, but since have been told about 20 diff worrying stories, no idea waht to expect when i reach the airport tomorrow, as will have about 50 dollars tops to my name, (had more than a few mishaps so far in this country)…anywa,y if anyone can please give me any info, so im at least a bit prepared, will be greatly appreciated, nerves are kinda shot at the minute… thanks!

You will be at the “mercy” of the official you met and it really depend on your luck. Worst case, you will be prevented from leaving, get official extension and pay the fine. But if you are lucky, you may be able to get away with minimal fine & perhaps some greasing, and leave on the flight. I would get to the airport early, be extremely apologetic, “blame” someone else for overlooking your visa expiry, look extremely pitiful and look really sorry for the trouble you are causing to the official – and pray that the official will be sympathetic and not too greedy.
