Question by terri b: are there safe places to park a car nears new yorks hostels? And how much is the cost?
I have an 18 year old son in new york right now. He and his 3 friend planned on staying in hostels, and had driven to the city from Minnesota. The driver was nervous as to where to park his car, so he phoned his parents whom have means and now they are paying a great deal for a for 4 star hotel that offered parking. Could they have found a hostile AND safe parking?

what do you mean by a hostile and safe parking? I have lived in New York City for the last 13 years. My experience is that: If you don’t want to get your car destroyed, toll away, or stolen, and if you intend to stay in the city (Manhattan) I would advise to pay a parking and preferably the one from your hotel. It is a nightmare to have a car in the city. Parking in the street is near impossible and risky. When you go to New York for vacation, you’ve got to be aware that it will not be a cheap vacation. I would have advised your son and his friends to leave the car at home, fly and find a place to stay in New York. The car is a very expensive luxury and a headache. So to answer to what I think is the question, Chances are they could not have found cheaper or if they did, they could be taking more risks…. I hope they have fun. It is the most amazing city in the world: New York

Is there an equivalent of LA Weekly for Berkeley/San Francisco area?

Question by lb: Is there an equivalent of LA Weekly for Berkeley/San Francisco area?
Like a paper thing where it says everything that’s going on that week– clubs, music, theatre, shows, movies, museums, night stuff.

There’s an SF Weekly that’s owned by the same people who publish the Los Angeles version.

However, the locals seem to prefer the Bay Guardian, which has more of a “Northern California” writing style (that is…less on fashion and celebrities, more on politicians and lawsuits).

Both have comprehensive entertainment listings. However, the Bay Guardian publishes a reader’s survey once a year called the “Best of the Bay” edition…which is the holy grail on what’s currently popular:

in the month of august. just an estimated guess?

Answer by JLAY88
202.00 (United Airlines) — 279.00 (Delta) this is a 1 week roundtrip flight from Baltimore to Miami
135.000 — 183.00; if flying to FT. Lauderdale
*rule of thumb, always book a flight on a Tues/Wed if you can. The prices of tickets are generally cheaper because of low traffic volume and its the middle of the week; most often more business people are traveling at this time so the wait is minimal at best.
Hope this helps

There are the Freer & Sackler Galleries which are the Smithsonian’s Asian Arts museums. I don’t know what the huge winged bull you’re talking about is so I can’t say whether they have one.
The National Gallery of Art also has some ancient art so maybe they’d have what you’re looking for.

Question by Logy: What is there to do in San Francisco?
I’m gonna go to SF at the end of May for about a month and I want to find things to do while I’m there. I would really appreciate ANY suggestions. I’ve been to SF before but that was back when I was like 13. I’m 19 now.
I would love to check out different music, museums, districts, restaurants, pretty much anything artsy/cultural.
Thanx so much in advance

Are there any Startups in San Francisco that let you walk in and visit/tour the offices?
I am going to San Francisco as a vacation and am wondering if anyone knows of any startups/tech companies that encourage visitors? I am interested in technology and startups and think it would be super cool to visit one as I know they’re all over SF.
Thanks

Unfortunately, there is very little to see. Most of the companies are closed to the public. And if you have seen one low rise suburban office building, you have pretty much seen them all. Intel in Santa Clara is the only one that actually welcomes unannounced visitors. Though be prepared for a barrage of PR about the virtues of a certain company’s chip.

The Tech Museum in San Jose is alright. If you love computers, it does have some fascinating items and exhibits. But it is also rather small and underwhelming compared to the huge museums in San Francisco dedicated to art, maritime history, natural history, etc.

Stanford University in Palo Alto has one of the best computer science departments around. The grounds are quite nice. There is a Byzantine style church, gardens, and an art museum. Guided tours of the campus are available. Although the focus of the tour isn’t on technology per se.
