Great places to bring friends to in San Francisco?
Posted by Mostafa Safavi in All about San Francisco on January 31st, 2012
Question by kitty purry: Great places to bring friends to in San Francisco?
I have friends who are coming this weekend to visit. They have all been here before, so they’ve done the “touristy” thing of going to the Golden Gate Bridge, hanging out by Fisherman’s Wharf and the Pier, etc. I was wondering if there were any other fun things you can suggest for us to do in the city. And which not-too-expensive food places would you suggest I bring them to? (something along the lines of Bi-Rite, Ike’s, etc)
Thanks!

Question by Animefreak20: Famous and popular places to see and visit in San Francisco?
I’ll be going to San Francisco for a few days’ vacation. And before going, I would like to know the places to see and visit when I reach there. So, can someone recommend me the popular tourists attraction places there?
And how is the weather like there during mid to end of September?
Thanks. =]

Some great attractions in San Francisco are driving down the crookedest street (Lombard Street), riding on a cable car, Alcatraz, Bay cruise, driving across the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown (visit the Fortune Cookie Factory), The San Francisco Zoo, Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, The Embarcadero, the observation deck of Coit Tower, Twin Peaks (a free view of San Francisco), Muir Woods, Angel Island, Golden Gate Park (the Japanese Tea Gardens are lovely), and Japantown (great shops and atmosphere). You can get some great pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge at China Beach. China Beach is nice and uncrowded and a great place to walk around and take in the beauty of the Golden Gate Bridge.
San Francisco has some of the best weather in the country. It will be warm and sunny. Not much rain in September. Not much fog, either. It’s one of the best times of the year to visit San Francisco.

Where are good and bad places to live in and around San Francisco?
Posted by Mostafa Safavi in All about San Francisco on January 14th, 2012
Question by : Where are good and bad places to live in and around San Francisco?
I’m looking at taking a new job in San Francisco, (I currently live on the east coast) and I am trying to find housing. I can’t afford much, but I’m trying to determine what areas are bad (ie dangerous and likely to hold lots of not so nice apartments) and which are decent? Are there any parts to really avoid?

Avoid the area called HUNTERS POINT. It is near Candlestick Park. Depending on your sexual orientation, there is an area called the Castro and it is the gay area. Great areas include the Nob Hill area and Twin Peaks. Pacific Heights is very nice. The area on the West Central part of the city, South of Golden Gate Park and getting near the ocean is less expensive and still nice … called the Sunset District. However, it is the area that gets the most fog and stays the coolest (sometimes cold).
The main street that runs South out of Golden GAte Park is 19th AVe. It goes down past San Francisco State University. The areas around SFSU and just East of 19th are real nice. 19th Ave runs into a regional Interstate (I-280) and 280 runs down the Peninsula to San Jose. On the way, you go through Daly City which border SF on the South. Daly City is nice as long as you are in the hills.
Many people like to live in the East Bay and commute in. BART train, although a bit costly, is a great way to get into the City and not pay hefty parking lot fees ($ 20-$ 30/day). The Bay Bridge is $ 5 for single drivers and $ 2 or $ 3 for carpools of 3 people. Oakland is a GEM of a city as long as you live near the hills. Berkeley and Emeryville are also excellent places to live. The cost of housing in the East Bay is less than in SF and, many times, the lower rent makes the cost of commuting worthwhile. The East Bay also has incredible weather (I think the best anywhere).
Be ready for “sticker shock” when renting. SF is comparable to NYC. I’ve a friend who rents out a duplex in Oakland … one bedroom in each unit and each unit is around 725 sq ft … she gets around $ 1650/mo for each unit (both are currently rented) and in that price range her fee is very reasonable for very nice units.

I don’t know how much of a trip the aquariums would be? If you’re looking for a quick thing you could always go up to any of the lookout points on Mulholland and watch the sunset or something…that’s what we all did in high school anyway.
As far as a weekend goes…if you’re willing to drive a few hours (which it seems like you are if you’re considering Big Bear) then maybe try Santa Barbara? I think there are some relatively cheap but nice hotels up there, though it’s been a LONG time since I’ve been so I don’t really remember…I think there are also affordable hotels in Ojai?

We are gonna go to ALcatraz, Lambard St, Union Square, FIsherman’s Wharf, the GG Bridge and probably chinatown. If you know of any other great places (not too expensive) please let us know.

Q&A: What Places Should I Go Visit In Washington DC with a Family?

Going to DC ON June 18-20

Any or all of the Smithsonian Institute museums. Go to their website for more info. They are almost all located along the Mall, but it is a long walk from one end to the other – not that you can see all the museums in one day, anyway! Jefferson Memorial and Lincoln Memorial are both nice; Washington Monument; Congress [if you want to go inside you have to go to the little tent at the corner of the Mall and get tickets and there are only a limited number available so go early].
Go to the library and get a tour book for DC. Or go to one or more of the on-line travel info sites: Frommer, Fodor, Lonely Planet, etc. TripAdvisor.com has destination guides, as well as hotel lists with comments from past guests.

See the SF the tourist phamphlets don’t mention. See Ocean Beach, Golden Gate Park, The Presidio, Lands End, Lake Merced and the nearby Ocean Cliffs, walk the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin, see the Marin Headlands and Mt. Tam…shop or eat in Sausalito. The places I mention are all in clean fresh air, without the crowds and danger and expense of the usual Downtown, Fisherman’s Wharf, Cable Cars, etc BS. Do not visit the Tenderloin or Downtown unless you like to see about 5000 people lying around on the street in various stages of consciousness, including dead. Opinions based on about 50,000 911 runs I ran in SF.

Hi there. There are loads of places to visit in Singapore. Eating out is relatively affordable just avoid the high end restaurants especially in hotels. You can get a decent meal for under $ 4 (Singapore dollars) Remember to take lots of water and put on sunscreen wherever you go! ![]()
Recommended places-
Singapore zoo- Lots of animals, be sure to go there real early because there are lots of attractions.
Sentosa- Bring an umbrella to block the sun. Go on the 4D rides. ![]()
Kudeta Casino Resort- Haven’t been there yet.
Bird park- Lots of birds. Not as many attractions as the zoo.
Night Safari- Adjacent to the zoo so you can go after your trip to the zoo if you aren’t too tired because it opens half an hour after the zoo closses.
Ochard Road- Shopping paradise! ![]()
Suntec City- Huge mall
Underwater World- Haven’t been there
Singapore Museum- Real interesting, I spent the whole day there
Clarke quay- Lots of bars, restaurant and neon lighs. It’s really pretty at night
Have fun! ![]()
