Q&A: What is the mission district in San Francisco like? Things to do? Location?

Question by Johnny Lincoln Park: What is the mission district in San Francisco like? Things to do? Location?

Best answer:

Answer by tonalc1
The Mission is basically in between 15th St. and Cesar Chavez, Potrero Street and Guerrero Street.

There are micro-neighborhoods. Some places are fun and exciting to live in, some are a little more dangerous.

Here’s a pretty good site for things to do:

I noticed 2175 jobs on hotjobs in the San Francisco area. What’s the job market really like there?

Question by greentrousers: I noticed 2175 jobs on hotjobs in the San Francisco area. What’s the job market really like there?
Would greatly appreciate a local opinion of the market because I’m considering packing up and heading west. :)
The search did include nearby tech areas of sunnyvale, san jose, santa clara, palo alto etc.
sorry, I should have mentioned, these are Technology Jobs.

If you have some education and especially a grad degree you should be able to find work in Silicon Valley. It’s been one of the few areas in the country not significantly impacted by the recession. Otherwise it’s slower in the downtown San Francisco area, but healthcare is doing OK.

Hi there. There are loads of places to visit in Singapore. Eating out is relatively affordable just avoid the high end restaurants especially in hotels. You can get a decent meal for under $ 4 (Singapore dollars) Remember to take lots of water and put on sunscreen wherever you go! :)
Recommended places-
Singapore zoo- Lots of animals, be sure to go there real early because there are lots of attractions.
Sentosa- Bring an umbrella to block the sun. Go on the 4D rides. :)
Kudeta Casino Resort- Haven’t been there yet.
Bird park- Lots of birds. Not as many attractions as the zoo.
Night Safari- Adjacent to the zoo so you can go after your trip to the zoo if you aren’t too tired because it opens half an hour after the zoo closses.
Ochard Road- Shopping paradise! :)
Suntec City- Huge mall
Underwater World- Haven’t been there
Singapore Museum- Real interesting, I spent the whole day there
Clarke quay- Lots of bars, restaurant and neon lighs. It’s really pretty at night

Have fun! :)
Elaine

Good airline to travel long distance like to Southeast asia?

Question by JH ♥ ASL * 愛万多* Happy A: Good airline to travel long distance like to Southeast asia?
For example I found a cheap flight to Singapore/Malaysia throught United Airlines, but when I went online I found quite a few bad reviews on them, no tv’s for example on the back of the chairs. I mean I could bring a portable DVD player but that would only last for a few hours..and it’s cool to watch foreign movies etc..like Korean airlines was really nice.
It just makes time go by quicker for a 20+ hour plane ride..

Anyway, any other good airlines I should watch out for? American Airlines?

Hm, sacrifice comfort for saving money??

Best answer:

Answer by JTSarkis
Northwest Airlines. They are huge in Southeast Asia. United is bad, don’t fly them. Northwest has very comfortable seats and great service. Go to www.nwa.com for more information.

Answer by Steve V
There is a train station near BWI, where you can take the marc train to Union Station in DC. I think it costs $ 6 each way. From Union Station in DC you can catch the metro subway to wherever.

Q&A: What is the IT job market like in San Francisco? i have heard it is hard to find a job?

Question by Ele: What is the IT job market like in San Francisco? i have heard it is hard to find a job?
My Husband and i are considering moving to San Francisco, he is a computer programmer and I’m a desktop tech, would it be hard to find jobs in these fields? and what about neighborhoods are there any un safe neighborhoods we should try to avoid? and what would be some good neighborhoods to look for an apartment in?

Best answer:

Answer by Light Knight
Check out Craigslist for possible jobs. It isn’t that there are no jobs but rather that there are a lot of skilled people who like to live here. If you can find a place to live after you find a job. The commutes can be horrendous. I know some people who routinely drive 2 to 3 hours each way.

Is it true that people in the east coast (like New York) celebrate the holidays (like Christmas) more?

Question by Staci: Is it true that people in the east coast (like New York) celebrate the holidays (like Christmas) more?
I heard that people in the east coast celebrate the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) most? Is it true? Does this mean the people in New York celebrate the most for Christmas due to nice decorations, snowing, and people being joyful?

My cousin lives in California in the Bay Area (she lives in the area where the majority population is Asian) and she says there’s barely anything exciting around the holidays and the people around her don’t seem to enjoy or celebrate the holidays at all.

So to those east coast people (especially the ones in New York) out there, do you guys always enjoy or celebrate the holidays?

Best answer:

Answer by Kathy
hi. i don’t know to be honest if it’s true….but i’d imagine that people might get more into the mood of the season on the east coast considering the fact that they get snow there and everything. it’s sad that it’s not celebrated as much on the west coast, but it’s also a cultural thing. i know my cousin has a friend who’s from china (i think) who’s family doesn’t celebrate christmas at all…so it could depend on the cultural region she lives in. :-)
