Anyone know of any cheap hotels in New York City? I want to be close to Times Square and such. I would like a sort of nice place, no flea bag motels!
I’m not looking for a hostel or shared room situation.
Thanks for your help!!

There is no such thing as a cheap room in NYC. Even the disgusting hostels are over 100$ a night. And anything anything under 200$ is going to be quite nasty.
Relativley affordable hotels in NYC are the roosevelt, Helmsley hotels ( there are several), Fitzpatrick grandcetral. Check those out.

Question by siroos h: Reserve a hotel in San Francisco city be cheaper than downtown and have access to public transport?
Hi, I am traveling to California this Friday. Want to stay in San Francisco for 2 nights then go to LA from San Jose on Sunday early morning where I will be meeting a friend. Prefer to stay in a hotel where I can easily use public transport to see the SF (or take a tour bus). What part of the city I can reserve a hotel to be cheaper than downtown and have access to public transport too. Thanks

You might want to consider a hotel near the airport and use Bart to get to the city.
If you want to stay in SF check out this hotel in the Marina

or one of these hotels in the South of Market Area

Question by Marr : First time to New York – Hotel Help!?
Coming to New York from San Francisco for a week with 3 children ages 7 – 14, We’re going to a Yankee’s game and to Statue of Liberty for sure, other places I’d like to try and visit are….
Coney island
brooklyn bridge
Wax Museum
Times Square
Grand Central
World Trade Center Site
Empire State Building
Museum of Modern Art
Rockerfeller Center
I have no idea how close or far these places are to eachother.
I need help figuring out where to find a hotel that is not too expensive that is close to at least some of these places.
also, the kids keep mentioning a”Pokemon/Nintendo” museum or store they want to go to while we are there, anyone know what they could be talking about?

The best place you can go to is the Millenium Hilton
http://www.hiltonfamilynewyork.com/millenium-hilton.php
or the Sheraton Hotel http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60763-d93555-Reviews-Sheraton_New_York_Hotel_Towers-New_York_City_New_York.html
but If you want to save money, you can just find a hotel in New Jersey and take the Subway to New York City. Oh and another easy way to visit these sites are if you take a Gray Line Bus Tours (open top bus) and there it has stops Like it would stop at the Rockefeller Center and drop you off there and all you have to do is wait for another bus which comes atleast every 15 minutes.

Q&A: Help with San Francisco Hotel?
Posted by Mostafa Safavi in All about San Francisco on April 4th, 2012
Question by little miss muffet: Help with San Francisco Hotel?
I need a hotel in San Francisco for 2 nights! Affordable but decent. I tried checking online, and saw some independent owned hotels and yes they are a little bit cheaper than hotel chains, but reading the reviews, it sounds scary. I can only afford a maximum of $ 110/night. I am not familiar with San Francisco area. Can somebody please give me an idea and advise on what hotel to check?

it depends where you want to stay in SF…
I sayed in Fisherman’s Wharf area and paid $ 70/nigh at Sheraton hotel (3-4 star hotel)…but that was 2yrs ago. Check priceline.com hotels.com and hotwire.com for deals. Good luck.
PS: Not sure if this applies to you… but car parking is super expensive and most hotels charge $ 20-40 a night for parking… so shop around.

Hmm, this is a tough one. You could try contacting some local NYC guides here:
http://www.viamigo.com/tours/new_york.html
Their New York tours are customizable, and one may be willing to accompany you to DC or maybe organize a bus for you. Alternatively, this guy:
http://www.viamigo.com/tour/washington-dc-plus.html?contact_guide
is a DC native and might be able to organize something for you in that area.
OR you could have a New York guide in New York, take a bus down to DC, and then hook up with a DC guide in the capital.
The DC guide will probably have great recs for hotels in the area.

It’s fine. Just don’t walk around the area alone at night and you shouldn’t have problems. Like anywhere else.

I stayed in a hostel in san fran. It was very safe area (union square)
here’s a link

very clean, very nice common area, free internet, free breakfast, 5 dollar dinner. You can’t get much better than that. It’s also about a 2 block walk to most major subway/muni/street car lines.

Q&A: Does anyone know of a kid friendly hotel in San Francisco?
Posted by Mostafa Safavi in All about San Francisco on March 12th, 2012
Question by disney4karyn: Does anyone know of a kid friendly hotel in San Francisco?
The kids are 3, 8, and 10 and we would like to visit the basic tourist places with them. We will have our car, so we don’t NEED to be close to them, but it would be a bonus to make it easier. They would like a pool, but again, not a must. I mostly would like it to be clean and in a safe area of town. I’m not also not sure if there is a better section of town to look, closer to ‘kid’ attractions. Thanks for the input!!

Sorry for this. Grew up in SF, worked there for the past 40 years. I’ve run 50,000 911 calls in SF. I tragically believe that SF simply isn’t a kid friendly place anymore in anyway. Stay in Marin.
