Question by : 10 POINTS! How do I convince my parents to go to New York on holiday?
I really want to go to New York, but my mum and dad are all set for going to south of France each year. Don’t get me wrong, I love it out there, because I have so many friends out there, but I would really love a change. I also really want to shop! Anyone know how I can get them to take me! x

Holiday idea’s…?

Question by VCC: Holiday idea’s…?
In the beggining of august i’m flying out to New York to meet my boyfriend (who lives in Vancouver) for about 5 days and than i’m getting a coach to Penn State uni to study for a few months. It would be good to fly out to NY but to fly back from State College in Pennsylvania, but to do that i would have to get single air tickets….. Is it cheaper to get a return to NY than to get 2 single flights?? Plus i’m not sure whether you can buy single tickets with immigration control etc and a student visa? Is it cheaper to get last minute deals on flights or to book in advance?
We’re not sure to either book a hotel with one of our flights so it’s a package thing or if it’s cheaper to book a hotel room seperately or to go out there and just look for a B&B; if they do them out there? We want to stay some where fairly decent, preferably a hotel but what’s the best way to get it as cheap as possible?

You can get a multiple stop ticket.
I flew from Chicago to LA. Then from Las Vegas to Seattle back to Chicago all on a one week ticket.

A holiday to New York. Should we go 3 days or a week?

Question by josh m: A holiday to New York. Should we go 3 days or a week?
My girlfriend and I live in London and are planning to go to New york for a short holiday. I’d prefer to go for about a week (although it would cost quite a bit more) because of the jetlag and adjusting to the time difference.
but my girlfriend suggests that we should go for a 3-day weekend because we would eventually get bored of the sights and it would be a lot cheaper. Can anyone help us make a decision?

I would say 3 days because there is not too much in new york. Go to all the cool sites for three days and it will be fun but a week there is a little too much for a place with only pretty sites and it would be very expensive. I agree, it would get boring. Well, have fun !

1000+ for flights,
1500+ for hotels
1500+ for others.
I think $ 4000-$ 5000 is Ok. Can save a lot if find flight and hotel deals from online travel sites such as www.expedia.com, www.ratechex.com…..
hope it helps

New York/US holiday?

Question by J L: New York/US holiday?
Hi all,
I’m from Australia and thinking of holidaying in the US for 3 weeks around christmas period. I wanted to stop over at New York, so would anyone know how many days is needed for a decent enjoyable look round the city?
Also would staying in say New Jersey (for cheaper hotels) be a bad idea? i.e. does it take ages to travel to New York from there via public transport? (any other suggestions?)
Thanks, some info from locals would be nice
ps: Other destinations I thought of include Los Angeles, San francisco, Las Vegas. Are these Good choices? bad?
Was thinking also of Chicago & Boston but not sure what to juggle.
Any suggestions would be great!
thanks

You can stay in (northern and central) New Jersey and commute to NYC without a problem via trains operated by New Jersey Transit.
Once in NYC you can also travel to both Boston and Philadelphia for around $ 20/$ 40.
There is no ‘recommended’ time to spend in NYC this is because each day you will never stop finding something new that you want to see or do but I would say a good 10-12 days would be sufficent enough time to see most things, give a couple of extra (about 15/16) if you do want to see Boston and Phily also.
If you want a west-coast trip then I would skip L.A. – Do Las Vegas, San Francisco and then fly to either Portland, Oregon or Seattle, Washington.
If you want something a little different on the west-coast, try San Francisco, Las Vegas and Denver – you could even fit a trip to the Grand Canyon in between Las Vegas and Denver if you like.
What do you think? Answer below!

I think you would enjoy New York honestly. New York isn’t as bad as when I was a child, but it still can be unsafe if your not careful. As a recommendation, don’t stay out past like 10 pm, because after that alot of drunks tend to be out, and it can get very dangerous. Unless of course you know how to take care of yourself. But it also depends on the area of New York your in. As long as you don’t do stupid things. Like get drunk to where you can’t remember a thing, you should be fine. As for the month that is the best time to go, i’d say during the spring months can be good. There are also the winter months too. And even though alot of attactions close during the winter, there are also alot of things you can only see during the winter months.

Question by john s: I need advice on a holiday apartment in San Francisco.?
I am a Brit looking for a 2 bed holiday apartment for a 7 day family(ish) holiday in San Francisco. We need three bedrooms or two bedrooms and sofa-bed.
I have been looking at these options..
1) http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/California/San-Francisco-Bay/holiday-house-San-Francisco/p66438.htm
2) http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/California/San-Francisco-Bay/holiday-condo-San-Francisco/p71225.htm
3) http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/California/San-Francisco-Bay/holiday-apartment-San-Francisco/p74349.htm?uni_id=59615
4) http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/California/San-Francisco-Bay/holiday-apartment-San-Francisco/p72595.htm?uni_id=57534
We will probably go for one of the cheaper places but I would appreciate some advice on the location. Are all of these locations okay?
Are there other sources of good holiday apartment listings you can point me towards?
Thanks in advance,
John

Check VRBO….vacation rentals by owner and Redweek…time share short term rentals. San Francisco is a small city with lots of good neighborhoods. It is easy to get from one area to another by cable car, bus or often walking. Be sure to see Golden Gate Park, Fisherman’s Wharf, Coit Tower and the De Young Museum. Have fun.
