New York City Hotels? (Help with a book I’m writing)?
Posted by Mostafa Safavi in All about New York on March 17th, 2012
Question by : New York City Hotels? (Help with a book I’m writing)?
I’m writing a book and in it, there’s a scene that I want to happen in one of the upscale hotels that all the celebrities/rich people stay at. (Examples: St. Regis?) Thing is, I’ve never been to one.
Anyone want to help me?
I need the name and descriptions of: the lobby, the rooms, and if there’s a bar, that too.
Thanks!

If you can update this with a sense of who your characters are, I could help. For instance, if someone is a model or in advertising, etc, they might stay in one kind of hotel; someone who is just rich might head for the Pierre or the Carlyle (displaced royalty like the Yugoslavs like it). So different hotels for different kinds of people…

Do i have a shot at Syracuse or WVU? Please help :(?

Question by : Do i have a shot at Syracuse or WVU? Please help
?
I have a 3.2 gpa in school and will be entering my senior year in high school. I also play Varsity Soccer for 3 years in High school, and 1 year of JV lacrosse and 1 year of Varsity lacrosse. I also volunteer at my local library, and do volunteer as maintenence and as a counselor at a week-long christian camp in Pennsylvania for 2 years. I will also be employed at the Thayer Hotel at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. My highest scores on my SAT thus far is 530 on Verbal, 570 writing, and 460 on Math. I’ll be re-taking the test about 1-2 more times this fall. If i really bust it out my senior year, 3.5 or higher, will i have a shot at higher level schools like Syracuse or Rutgers? I’m looking to go into Journalism-Print. I know newhouse @ syracuse is extremely difficult to get into, so ill settle for any other related major…do i atleast have a shot at West Virginia?? Is there any other schools you’d recommend?! Thanks a lot. Looking for a thorough answer..
With that said, I’m looking into Long Island University, West Virginia University, Rutgers University, Syracuse University, and SUNY Cortland. I’m trying to go big or go home here. I can really write a mean and sophisticated essay and get great leadership letters of recommendation from my sports coaches and employers. Will doing flawless senior year help me!? Thanks alot.

Hey i go to West Virginia, and you will definitly get into West Virginia with those credentials. I had around a 3.3 in highschool and i got a 4,000 dollar a year scholarship, something you will probaby get as well. Courtland is a really good school as well i have friends that go there with the same credentials as me. As to the specific details of their journalism majors i wouldnt know but WVU has a great program. Plus you will have more fun at WVU than at any of those other schools anyways Big School Big Sports Big Parties, whats not to like?

HELP! PLEASE!
I’m going to be in San Francisco, CA for 11 days and I am going to need a car. I sure hope someone can direct me to something cheaper than the $ 475 the car rental place is asking. Thanks.

As you’ve probably already discovered, the major companies (Hertz, Dollar, Avis, etc.) are all going to be about $ 250/week.
Check out Rent-A-Wreck and City Rent A Car. Their weekly rates are around $ 160-190.

Help ~ Apartments on Federal Street (*San Francisco*)?

Question by Jazz on the Rocks: Help ~ Apartments on Federal Street (*San Francisco*)?
I will be heading for SF this July and am now looking for ‘long-term’ apartments on Federal Street or at least close enough to it. I know I could always Google them but I guess nobody knows it better than the locals. So any help will be very much appreciated. I’m going to the Academy of Art, and my campus is located on 60 Federal Street. Thanks in advance.

Apartments in that immediate area are either going to be terrifically expensive or in seedy hotels.
I would recommend you look for a place farther out but close to public transportation. Doesn’t the AA have shuttle buses? You could see where the pickups are.
Also, I thought they had student housing, or at the very least could advise you on housing. (Although they would probably want you to live in their building, since they are at heart a real estate conglomerate using the school as a non-profit cover.)
Check out craigslist http://sfbay.craigslist.org/ If you find a cheap place in SOMA, that would be close by.

Question by smokefreediva: People who live in San Francisco help me choose a museum for our kids in mentoring and their mentors!?
We are planning a fieldtrip to San Francisco, and we will be taking all of our Mentors and the kids they are mentoring. The kids are between the ages of 12-14. Which museum do you think is better to take them to, or give me any suggestions to somewhere in San Francisco that is very fun and educational? We are deciding between the ZEUM museum of Arts and Technology or the Exploratorium in San Fran. Help us decide! Tell me what’s good about them! We live 3hours away so we’re hoping its worth the trip.

Q&A: help for career change??

Question by Wonder27: help for career change??
I want to work abroad since I am not satisfied with what I am getting with my job especially nowadays, it seems that the cost of living is going up high. So I have this friend who works in Arizona at a luxurious hotel said there is a job opportunity there. But according to him I need to study Hotel Management for me to be qualified. So I said, I’ll see if I can enrol by the end of the month for some short courses that wouldn’t cost me alot. Then my brother the other day told me there are teaching opprotunities in Thailand though the salary isnt that high but the cost of living is cheap so I can really save a lot. And he has a friend who works there who can help me find a place. So my brother asked me to study a short course in English. I really don’t know where to go. I also have pending application in Singapore because they have several job openings there that really fits my experience which is a call center agent.Im just pushing tru those three options,,whatever comes up.

go with whatever you feel most confident with.
To me, the hotel in Arizona sounds like the most fun, but thats my personal taste.
Also, I’d be scared to go somewhere that I would be alone. Make sure you have friend there.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

3. How to go to the monument (is that the tall tower?)
4. Is McPherson square station the nearest station to White House? Id just like to take a photo..
And is the washington metro 24 hours???And fares cheap?
Im arriving 5 am in greyhound..is it safe?
Thanks!

Answer by Stacy S
1. Yes. Union Station is 4-5 blocks from the Greyhound Station. You could also walk one block north and one block east to the NY Ave metro station and take the metro one stop to Union Station.
Yes, it never got above about 42 degrees today, so it’s fairly cold.
2. You can walk from Union Station to the Mall. The Capitol is about 3 blocks south of Union Station and the Mall extends west from the Capitol. Or, take the red line to Gallery Place or Metro Center and walk about 6 blocks south. Or take the Orange line to the Smithsonian station, which has an exit directly on the Mall.
3. The Washington Monument (the tall, pointy thing) is at the opposite side of the Mall from the Capitol. Smithsonian is the closest metro stop;
4. Yes – McPherson Square or Farragut West.
No, the DC metro is not 24 hours. It opens at 5 during the week. Check www.wmata.com for more info.
eh. Safe-ish. That area town has improved quite a bit in recent years. Your average hoodlum is not out at 5:00 am, but I would stick the better lit streets.

Some great facts to help “keep the faith”. No rude, mean or crude comments, please.?

Question by ₪ ̻ V ¡ ¢ ז☺я ɣ ̻ ₪: Some great facts to help “keep the faith”. No rude, mean or crude comments, please.?
I will ignore mean/rude/crude criticism/comments, so no point posting them.
These are from one of my fave books with some impute from me. The book is called “If There Is No God…” by Mark Winter and I highly recommend it to anyone, especially to Christians trying to “keep the faith” This may be long, but is well worth it. Very good and interesting points along with proven facts in each one, not just opinions. Read it and it just may change your life.
If there is no God, why does America pause every year to give thanks? Abraham Lincoln established the national holiday of Thanksgiving in 1863, but not without some prodding by Sarah J. Hale (a Christian) whose editorials and letters helped institute the holiday. If you don’t recognize Hale’s name, you know one of her nursery rhymes-“Mary Had A Little Lamb”
MY NOTE— Mary had a little lamb has more meaning behind it than most know. Look at the verse:
Mary had a little lamb
Yes and his name is Jesus, now the Shepherd of the ones he was born of
Whose fleece was white as snow
Pure, Holy and sinless
And everywhere that Mary went, the Lamb was sure to go
God is with everyone, everywhere, because he loves us.
He followed her to school one day which was against the rules
He went against what others said and spoke the truth, which he was crucified for
It made the children laugh and play to see the lamb at school
He made us new and gave us meaning and hope. We are all children of God.
If there is no God, who teaches the newborn whale to swim?
A healthy whale calf can swim the moment it’s born, rising unaided to the surface for its first breath. In one week, a baby blue whale will double in weight eventually tipping the scales at 150 TONS.
–Jonah 2:10- The Lord commanded the fish
MY NOTE– you may say instincts, but where do those come from? God.
If there is no God, why have so many biblical prophesies come true? In Science Speaks, Peter Stoner calculated that the probability of one person fulfilling eight selected selected biblical prophesies was 1 in 1,017. The likelihood of one person fulfilling forty-eight prophesies was 1 in 10,157. Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled SIXTY-ONE major Old Testament prophesies!
MY NOTE: WOW.
If there is no God, why is “revelation” in the dictionary? In 1945, a woman awoke at one o’clock in the morning, feeling an urgent need to pray for a hometown boy at war. “Lord, whatever danger Spencer is in,” the woman prayed, “just cover him with a cloud.” At that same time in Germany, Spencer and his company scurried past enemy lines-a long mysterious cloud masking their movement.
MY NOTE: WHOA!
If there is no God, who dabbed spots on the leopard?
If there is no God, why does the world celebrate Christmas? In 1998, the Cuban government reinstated Christmas as an authorized holiday after a twenty-nine year ban. After the announcement, Bishop Adolfo Rodriquez triumphantly announced, “the church is separate from the state but it is not separate from the people.”
MY NOTE: Right on Mr. Rodriquez!!!!
If there is no God, how do we explain that a machine needs a maker, but the universe does not? A typical wind up alarm clock contains about a dozen moving parts. No one disputes that a skilled worker put it together. Yet some people argue that the world does not require an intelligent maker–a world that contains more than 9,000 species of birds, 70,000 kinds of trees and 750,000 types of insects.
For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.
MY NOTE: still think the earth was an accident? I know I don’t!!!
If there is no God, why do we have a conscience? In 1811, a government defrauder anonymously sent five dollars to Washington DC. Since then, the US treasury has managed a Conscience fund, which has received millions of dollars from remorseful citizens.
MY NOTE: Could an accident do that? NO. Our minds our too complex to be an accident.
If there is no God, why have people seen angels? Missionary John G. Paton and his wife prayed when a hostile tribe surrounded their home one night. At dawn, the tribe suddenly turned and ran. A year later, the chief reported that hundreds of men were standing guard at the house–huge men with radiant garments and drawn swords.
MY NOTE: I he was crazy, he would of ran. Not the whole tribe. If they all ran, they all saw it. There is no way that they all became crazy and saw the same thing at the same and then returned perfectly normal. No way. There were angels there. For sure.
If there is no God, who makes miracles? In 1979, a young woman joined a group fleeing from Cambodia. When they couldn’t find a road because of thick darkness, a swarm of fireflies appeared and lit the way. Later, the woman attended a Christian meeting and pointed to a picture of Jesus. She said, “I know this man. He is the One who led us to freedom.”
MY NOTE: Need I say anything more?
Thanks for reading all this and I hope it makes a positive impact in your life. God bless and keep the faith!
