West 45th & 46th Streets between 5th Ave & Broadway is known as “Little Brazil”.
Give yourself 15 or 20 minutes, walk up & down the blocks, read the menus posted outside, and you’re sure to make the choice that’s right for you!

Seafarers and International House (http://www.sihnyc.org) and Jazz on the Town (http://www.jazzhostels.com/jazzonthetown.php) (both near Union Square with lots of subways and fun things to see and do) are among the best. My wife and I even recommended them to some of our less affluent wedding guests. (None stayed there, but my parents checked them out and approved and they don’t approve of anything.)
There’s also a pretty new Econolodge a few blocks from Times Square.
Don’t stay in the Hostel on Amsertdam and 102nd. It’s right across the street from a housing project and the neighborhood’s a bit rough.

it’s a cute outfit. kind of boring. maybe spice things up; do something more retro with your hair. vintage clothing can also be a beamer! and i heard that washington is coldish so pack a light jacket just in case!

I am really tight on money and have been totally stressing about finding a cheap flight to go home..does anyone have any suggestions?! Thank you!!

Madison is not a large city and will probably not have a lot of flights. Therefore ticket prices will be high due to lack of competition. You can see if you can get flights out of Milwaukee as AirTran has a number of flights out of that city. Another option is to fly out of Chicago.
I would suggest you fly into San Francisco versus Oakland as Oakland is an expensive city to fly in and out of.

A Good Way to Drive from Washington DC to NYC?

I’ve driven to NYC from DC before, and it went fairly smoothly on the way there. We drove to New Jersey, parked there and rode a train into the city. Driving back took forever though, we were in solid traffic all the way back; I would estimate that we were on the road for at least 6 hours, but it may have been even more.
Has anyone driven from DC into NYC? How long did it take? Are there better roads to travel on? Is there a way to drive into NYC and park near a metro and leave your car there the whole trip (rather than parking in New Jersey and taking a train)? We aren’t comfortable driving in NYC traffic, but I’m thinking there may be a metro station far out enough to park near..?…?…

You are better off paying for a decent hotel no matter where you go. When you go for cheap, you get cheap and anything can happen. The cheap hotels in the Times Square area are not what you want to be getting into.

I’m not sure on NY law but basic “good time” works like this. Criminal Bob gets sentenced to prison for 10 years. First he gets credit for any jail time that he did before he was sentenced and after conviction the time he does before he actually goes to prison. My State says that for every day that you behave yourself while incarcerated they will credit you for 2 days. So, Criminal Bob….starts his sentence and is a really model prisoner…so instead of doing 10 years of prison time he only does 5 years. But if he’s a badddd boy and gets in trouble while in prison he can lose his good time credits…lets say he is caught with dice…(it happens) he can get sentenced to his cell for say 30 days (can’t get out) AND he loses 45 days good time credit. So basically he winds up serving the 5 years and another 45 days of the original 10 year sentence.
