The are apartments that occupied an entire city block, much larger than an average house in most suburbs, but each room cost a million. Which means if you want to move from a seven room apartment to a eight room apartment, it costs an additional million dollars. It really depends on how much you can afford.

you can find a 200 foot studio to a 10,000 square foot townhouse.

yes Apartments in NYC are pretty darn small…
space is limited in Manhattan so bigger places carry a premium
2000 sq ft apt will run you about 6 grand a month for rent

life in nyc is pretty fast paced… maybe not as fast as HK or Tokyo…

There are 5 boroughs in New York City: Manhattan (aka “The City”); Bronx (aka “The Bronx”); Queens; Brooklyn; and Staten Island

If you are referring to Manhattan (the most famous borough and where most tourists visit) then the apartments are usually smaller, more “shoe box” like and more expensive than the other boroughs. That’s why it’s critical to have roomates to share the rent. Let’s say a 1 bedroom apartment can cost you around $ 1,500+ depending where you want to live in Manhattan. However, if you want to save a little more, you can go live in another borough and take a subway train to Manhattan. I used to live in Queens and it was about a 10 minute ride to Manhattan.
If you or anybody reading this want to live in NYC someday, avoid living in Manhattan and go find apartments in the other boroughs. It’s better if you find a roomate, one who isn’t psycho, to share the rent. The more roomates you have the better.

Well most new apartment in in manhattan are small. There are alot of older apartments like in lower manhattan and the upper west side that are decent but they are really hard to find or they get bought up and split into two apartments. If you want to find large apartments, you have to go to the bronx, and queens to find the old WWII era apartments that are huge. Im talk living rooms that are 20 x 15.

If you like breakfast, Kate’s Kitchen ( 471 Haight st) and Mama’s (1701 Stockton St) are good bets. Green Apple books, if you like used books, is on Clement, you can get a crepe at Genki or a tea at Blue Danube. There’s also Sausalito–you can rent bikes there and roll around. You can go see a show, there’s lots of music.

i think the westfield shopping center is a fun place to go. it’s connected to bloomingdale’s so it’s super big. there’s tons of stores & tons of places to eat. also, there’s japan town. they have great places to eat & there’s karaoking & it’s sooo funn :]. oh&there’s the embarcadero. it’s a longgg street with coffee houses & that’s where the giant’s baseball stadium is. you should watch a game there. there’s so many different activities to do & the food is delicious.

I lived there for a couple of years everything is so cool like there’s this huge hill right by the Golden Gate Bridge ones u climbed it u fell like your on top of the world. And plus u see the city real perfectly. But my fave place is downtown SF they have the best lobster and crazy people that spite fire out of there mouths. And I couldn’t leave with out seeing sea world!! just to tell u I still haven’t stoped being a 49ers fan. woo!! go 49ers!!! and if your not a football fan thats cool but trust me your going to see 49ers stuff every where. GOOD LUCK!

It depends on where you live in NY… If you live in the city life is pretty fast paced, and the apartments are pretty small. But the further upstate you go it all seems to slow down as you get to the country and the apartments can be pretty big.

There are lots of unique things to do.

They sell half price tickets to a wide variety of events. You will find the standards, but also things you never thought of attending. They also ahve tickets to some of the lesser know venues, that have great entertainment but no budget for promoting it.

Also, try to get into one of the spas! They have some great deals on new spas in the area!

Yeah- I think he has realized your not in love with him anymore. He moved you away to keep you under his control & the fact he doesn’t want you to get a car is another good point of his need to control you. Maybe he’s just sincerely afraid you’ll leave him when you do get a car. Maybe you can manage to get through school first- then get a job & if you still feel the need to get away- go for it. I do know staying together for the kids sake is no way to be. The kids will only see their parents cold & distant… never honestly seeing what love is suppose to between two adults. Not to mention they can sense & pick up on all your stress & tension & the fact you aren’t happy. And seeing their parent smoking pot isn’t a very good role model for them either- unless of course you don’t mind having “pot-head kids” If you know deep down you’d manage ok & be alot happier without him- then move on now before it gets to the point you are so controlled you can’t.

They have Italian and American cuisine, they have stellar service, are not typically too crowded because not that many people know they’re there yet – this is truly a “hidden gem.” The outside of the place looks unimpressive but inside are beautiful stone floors and a feeling that you’ve stepped into another dimension. There’s an acoustic guitarist/singer who plays there sometimes named David Davol. He’s very good and lovely to listen to. He has a huge playlist and if you have a special song, he frequently does requests. He does James Taylor for my husband and me

From experience, I recommend going to see all the war memorials and the president memorials. Another must is to visit Arlington Cemetery. In terms of museums, all of the Smithsonains are great but the one museum you must go to is the Holocaust Museum. Taking their tour is really life-changing. Also swing by the court house and Capital Hill and say hi to your congressman if you get the chance. I hope this was helpful and I hope you and your boyfriend have a great time.

Go to Jinx proof in Georgetown and get a tattoo.Go to the National Arboretum or Botanical garden, go down and hang out at the wharf. Navy yard Park is really cool. check out the sight. National Cathedral is cool, great architecture so its the shrine of the immaculate conception. Yes, there are segway tours, I’ve never been because I hate tours, I like to explore on my own. Some random pointers here.

Get a hotel in Northern Virginia or in Maryland that is NORTH of Washington DC. Places like Alexandria and Arlington Virginia and Bethesda and Rockville Maryland are best. Stay out of the areas that are South and East of Washington DC, because those are generally “ghettos”.

Don’t try to drive into DC. The driving is slow and there is not enough public parking spaces. Your best bet is to take the Metro (subway) into DC and then just walk.

Be sure to bring some very comfortable walking shoes and some comfortable clothing. Right now it’s about 97 F in DC with 97 % humidity. In other words it’s HOT. It will stay this way until mid-September and then start to cool a bit.

You can see all the sights by either walking or taking the Metro. The monuments and memorials are all free, as are the Smithsonian Museums.

I think that the Museums are the best part of Wash DC. So plan to see them all if you can.

You could visit the Washington Monument, it has grass surrounding if you wanted to buy sandwiches and just eat there like a picnic. It is like a light house you travel up to the very top and there are windows so you could see all of Washington D.C. I suggest making this your first stop to get a feel for where everything is in D.C

I don’t know if your into the monuments and everything but you could visit the white house. There is a gate so you must stand a distance way. Bring a camera take photos. You could also visit the Lincoln Memorial. A statue of Lincoln sitting in his chair. I would say both these things are boring to visit but its history and thats what makes it fresh!

Smithsonian museums are the best!

Segway tours are fun, but QUITE expensive–I’d say to avoid them.

You may want to purchase a pass for the Tourmobile, which circles the National Mall, allowing you on-off privileges for a day (I believe they also throw in a second day free of charge).

The major tourist attractions are the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, the Smithsonian American History Museum, the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, the US Capitol, the Washington Monument, the National Archives, the Lincoln Memorial and walking by the White House (you can only get inside if you arrange for passes several months ahead through your US Congressman’s office).

A “hot spot” for dining these days is the “Penn Quarter” section of 7th Street, NW, which is only a few blocks from the National Mall. If you prefer drinking, try the spots on Capitol Hil, Georgetown, or the Adams-Morgan neighborhood.

In addition to info in other answers, perhaps this would be helpful.

You should be able to find work as a dental assistant and you do not require a license or certification for this in most states. Certification is OFFERED to allow you to more clinical procedures, but it is not required. The thing is, you WILL be limited to dental assisting. You would not become an assistant dentist. In fact, I have had a foreign dentist as a patient and she decided to become an assistant as a fast track to an income, as her foreign dental degree was worthless in the job market.

In order to get licensed, you will need to be certified by a USA dental school to take the licensing examination. NO school will do that without a minimum of two years education in their facility. When they certify you, their reputation sits with you as you take the board examination. Funding rests on the number of successful candidates. They can not afford to just let you try it once under their name and see how it goes.

Many dental schools have 2-to-3 year programs to retrain foreign dentists so that they can be certified to take the licensing board examinations.

For someone from another country to come and work in the US you need to obtain a work permit, unless you’re already a resident (Green Card Holder) or a US Citizen.

To obtain a work permit you must have advanced qualifications (like a BA or higher) and must already have a job offered to you. Meaning that it is up to the company that is hiring you to prove that they need you here and cannot find someone already qualified to work in the US to do that job.

I don’t know what the demand for dentistry is, but I would check web sites listed below and see whether there are any jobs offered in your field. If there is you can apply and if they are willing to hire you then they would have to submit paperwork to the US immigration department to request a work permit for you.

I know this sounds complicated but it can be done and is done often, specially if you have good qualifications, which it sounds like you do.

I think step one is to get certified by the state of California. You cannot practice medicine or dentistry without a state license.

Check with http://www.my.ca.gov and look for the state agency which licenses physicians and dentists. You probably need to take additional courses in an accredited dental college, as well as a professional examination.

You also might contact the University of California at San Francisco and see what information their dental school can provide regarding dentists with foreign education.

I am not sure what you mean about “living style.” There are many different types of lawyers, and your salary will determine your living style. If you work in a big firm (you usually have a summer internship during laws school), the starting salaries are in excess of $ 125,000 annually, so you can afford more than a studio. I would suggest the Marina or Cow Hollow.

If you work in the nonprofit world, and are lucky to earn $ 35,000, you will most likely live in a roommate situation, or live in the tenderloin.

Do some research and find things you know would be of interest to them so you can present your idea in a way that would spark their interest. Don’t mention shopping. Downtown apartments start at $ 1,500 or so (for a small studio). As for the outlook for legal professionals, it’s generally favorable.

If you’re good, there are plenty of opportunities. San Francisco has some very prestigious and long established law firms. It is a very competitive job market, however.

Many of the cases decided in San Francisco’s courtrooms are of national interest. There’s a lot at stake, and thus, lawyers are pressured to perform (or else). In addition to having one of largest Superior Courts in California, San Francisco is also the seat of:

Just kidding, I’m really fine, but, as long as we’re here, what the heck, let’s have a nice vacation, eh?”

guilt is always worth a try, putting together a solid argument of why they would enjoy ny, what they can see and do, maybe find some cheap accommodation for them so you can show them that they can save money, if your mum is into shopping…show her what she can get, if she likes plays, show her all the shows that she can see…basically think of everything they would say to you in retort and then think of something to say to each so you have a stronger case
