What must see sights in Washington DC need to apply in advance and how?

Question by zilch: What must see sights in Washington DC need to apply in advance and how?
Want to visit Washington DC. Do you know what must see sights in Washington DC are required to apply in advance and how to do it?
Besides the White House, is the advanced ticket required to visit the U.S. Capitol, by the way?

Best answer:

Answer by DON W
There’s really only one: to see inside the White House, you must apply at least a month in advance. To do so, you must contact the office of your US Congressman, who will attempt to get tickets for you. For the best chance of getting tickets, apply about six months in advance.

UPDATE

To visit the US Capitol, you can make online reservations using this official website:

http://tours.visitthecapitol.gov/welcome.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

You can also ask your Congressman or Senator’s office to book the Capitol tour for you.

It’s also possible to just show up at the Capitol Visitor’s Center for a tour, although if it’s busy, you may have to wait quite some time–which is why it’s best to reserve in advance.

Q&A: What is an average Java programmer salary in Washington DC?

Question by green_e_zeleno: What is an average Java programmer salary in Washington DC?
Is $ 80,000 annual for a Junior Java programmer about the norm in DC? Is $ 80,000 livable in Washington? Is it enough for a one bedroom apartment

Best answer:

Answer by Archangel
You can actually go to CareerBliss.com and find out. However, that salary seems high to me unless you have a TS security clearance. A single person can live well on that.

What else is there to do in Washington, DC?

Question by Kaytee: What else is there to do in Washington, DC?
I’ve been to Washington DC a couple of times and seen all the major monuments and museums. This week I am going there on a business trip and will have one free dayto look around. Can somebody recommend me some activities other than the above mentioned ones? It does not even have to be very educational or anything, just something interesting to see or do. Thanks!
PS – I will have a car to get around.

Go to the Smithsonian Institute. No joke… you could spend an entire week in there and want to go back.

How to get from New York City to Washington DC?

Question by : How to get from New York City to Washington DC?
Hi guys!
I’m from Italy and I need a help :)
Next month i’ll go to Washington DC, but my flight lands at JFK (NYC). I need to know how to get from NY to DC…i’ll be by myself and don’t wanna be worried about that! :D
Thanks!!!

Best answer:

Answer by Native New Yorker
My friend, from JFK Airport, take a taxi to Penn Station in Midtown, Manhattan, where a connection can be made to Amtrak rail services to Washington, DC.

The taxi fare from the airport to the train station will cost you $ 45, while the one way fare on the Amtrak from New York City (Penn Station) to Union Station in Washington, DC will range in price from $ 80 to $ 200 one way, depending on the train you’re taking and the time of day you’re traveling.

I hope this information is very helpful.

Good luck

Question by : How much spending cash should I bring to Washington DC for 5 days?
I am vacationing to Washington DC, and would like to know how much money should I intend on spending on food, metro transportation, and museums? I know the museums are free but there might be locker rentals, etc. This estimate doesn’t need to include souvenirs.

Would $ 55.00 / day be adequate?

Any advice would be great!

Best answer:

Answer by yeah
I would say at least some where around $ 400, DC can be expensive since they know a lot of tourist are always there.

Haunted Restaurants In/Near Washington DC/Baltimore?

Question by neptune032701: Haunted Restaurants In/Near Washington DC/Baltimore?
Hi,
I’ll be taking my family on a trip to DC/Baltimore in a few weeks and we were looking at restaurants. We are not into the big chain restaurants and we are looking for something with a good atmosphere. We love places that have historical significance and/or places that are out of the ordinary. We would love to eat someplace that is supposedly haunted. I was hoping some of you would be able to suggest a few places.

Thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Useful Idiot
Well, can’t say much about haunted restaurants, but can recommend Gadsby’s Tavern in Old Town, Alexandria, VA. George Washington lived down the street and tied many “ones” on at the Tavern. They have characters on weekends. Not sure about weekdays. The food is great btw. My favorite is GW’s fav…a stuffed cornish game hen. Most of the founding fathers have made their way to Gadsby’s.

You can eat then take the ghost tour of Old Town.

Gadsby’s is at the corner of Royal and Cameron Streets.

Can a Landlord evict me if I never took position of the property?

Question by spikeone86: Can a Landlord evict me if I never took position of the property?
I moved to Los Angles from Washington, DC. I looked on the internet for an apartment. I found one and was approved by the management company. I told the manager that I would like to see the property before I commit to a year lease. He said he would send me a lease agreement and if I signed it he would hold the property for 7 days, but after that he would have to release it. I went ahead and signed the lease, when I arrived in LA and saw the property and did not like it. He told me I was bound by the signed lease and if I did not occupy the property he would evict me and put a negative on my credit report, can he do that? My lease was a fax copy, I did not send any monies and never received a key or anything relative to the property.

Best answer:

Answer by estielmo
You bound by the signed lease and if you do not live up to its terms he can file a small claims suit and be awarded damages that you will have to pay AND it will show up in any “court action” search, making renting an apartment more difficult. PLUS it will go on your credit report and he can garnish your wages.

“Not liking” it is not an “out” for you. You must prove substantial deceit. Having the e-mail that said the signed lease would only hold the property for 7 days, and after that he would have to release it MIGHT help.
