Q&A: About helping a cross-dressing friend in pain?
Posted by Mostafa Safavi in All about Washington D.C. on January 27th, 2012
Question by : About helping a cross-dressing friend in pain?
A friend of mine has confided in me about cross-dressing. He is married and has two kids, little kids. His wife is aware of the cross dressing, but not the extent of his obsession.
He won’t go to therapy because he is afraid of therapy. Does any one know of any resources in the Baltimore or Washington DC area for therapists- support groups – anything?
I understand that he is in a terrific amount of pain, but I am not a therapist. I am afraid that letting him talk to me about it is enabling him from figuring out what to do.
To be clear, I 100% support him dressing as a woman. I think that cross-dressing is fine. I just don’t know why he hasn’t already come out and I don’t know how to help him transition.
I kind of think that his refusal to see a therapist who can help him figure out whether he really wants to or not is because he doesn’t really want to. But, I just don’t know. I don’t have any other friends but him with this problem.
Please send me links and resources as well as your opinion on how I can help him.
He wants to come out as a woman now. He wants to get a new job and start working as a woman. It is not my idea.
You are right that it is none of my business, he comes to me. He contacts me at least fifty times per day. I do not contact him.
I am trying to help him. I don’t care how anyone dresses.
Again, to be clear – It is not me who thinks he should start living as a woman – it is his idea. Entirely his. I support him either way – he is my friend no matter what he wears.

Why do you think he needs to “come out”?
He’s a cross-dresser, not gay..A cross dressing man, just likes to dress in womens clothes.
99% are otherwise Hetrosexual..
If he doesn’t want therapy, leave him alone.. probably fine just the way he is.
And it’s really none of your business…

What is the best time of year to look for an inexpensive apartment in San Francisco?
Posted by Mostafa Safavi in All about San Francisco on January 27th, 2012
Question by Jackie34: What is the best time of year to look for an inexpensive apartment in San Francisco?
I would really love to move into a studio apartment in the Marina, Pac Heights, pr Presidio Heights areas but I am not willing to pay more than $ 1300. I will be starting graduate school in October (masters in education) as I’ll then be switching careers from sales to teaching in 2 years time. So I’m definitely trying to watch my wallet, yet still live in a nice, safe and convenient area. So I’d like to do my search at the right time of year when rents are typically lower.

They are never low here. If you are in sales it is a simple supply and demand problem. With the limited supply until the demand drops the prices won’t. Your best bet is if gas goes higher and the economy goes in the toilet they may go down. Problem is so could your wages.

California Vacation Tours (San Fran to LA, etc.) Travel Agencies Please?
Posted by Mostafa Safavi in All about San Francisco on January 27th, 2012
Question by pyon!! pyon!!: California Vacation Tours (San Fran to LA, etc.) Travel Agencies Please?
Me and my mother would like to visit California in August. However we don’t know what tour packages to get or which ones are the best. Our visit will span from August 1st to two or one weeks. We would like to have our package to include San Francisco and Los Angeles and all in between. Which travel agencies or tour agencies would do the job? We would really appreciate any feedback! Thank you very much.

Here is the problem: travel agents are a dying breed, as they have been squeezed out by whatever you see on the internet. You really had to decide what it is you want to see and work from that angle. do you belong to AAA? They culd offer a better degree of help. One week is not enough time to do both LA and SF well

Should americans vote out every single incumbent next election to make a point?
Posted by Mostafa Safavi in All about Washington D.C. on January 27th, 2012
Question by jesswzmn: Should americans vote out every single incumbent next election to make a point?
I would support a movement for the 2010 elections that would target every single incumbent congressman and senator for defeat and send a new fresh face to washington DC that has a mandate to change things in the favor of we the people. I know not every politician is bad, but I think it would be a good thing if every incumbent got the boot because then they would realize maybe who they are supposed to work for.

ideally yea…but the voters have been saying that since before I was born (1979). It is obvious the People have no clue what they stand for…and if they did, they wouldn’t have the guts and glory to stand up and fight for it.

Question by abc: What attractions(aquariums, museums, et.) near or in New York City are for a good price and are fun?
Going to New York soon. Need to plan where we are going to. Planning to go to a Broadway show, the zoo, and Central Park already. Just need one more place to go because we want to have a great time. For at least 5 people. Can you also list some boats that are not much that go AROUND not in Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty. Thanks!

You could ride the Staten Island Ferry. It doesnt go around the Statue or Ellis Island, but its pretty close….and free.
The Museum of Natural History was the most interesting museum Ive been to in the City (but Im not a huge museum fan). Its on 78th (I think) & Central Park West – right on the outside of Central Park. There is a $ 15 reccomended price, but if you go to the counter, you can suggest any price you want.

My Must Do San Francisco
1. Ride a Cable Car, the only moving historical landmark in the world. Stop off at the Cable Car Barn at Washington and Mason to get a full understanding of this unique form of transportation. Riding the Powell Hyde line will allow you to see Lombard Street the famous crooked street.
2. Visit Alcatraz, this former prison is the most popular destination in San Francisco. The bay cruise to and from the island will give you the opportunity to see the skyline from the water a unique perspective
3. Visit Coit Tower, Beautiful murals inside, impressive bay view from the tower or Pioneer Park at the base. Then descend Telegraph hill via the Filbert Steps on the East side of the park for a unique view of how folks on Telegraph Hill live, more beautiful bay views and the chance to hear and see the famous Parrots of Telegraph Hill.
4. Golden Gate Bridge, not just a feat of engineering, this 1.7 mile span offers incredible views of The City, the bay and the Pacific ocean. Be sure to visit Ft. Point under the bridge for a different view of this San Francisco Icon.
5. Explore Golden Gate Park, this large urban park can consume a whole day. The Japanese Tea Garden, the Deyoung Muesum [American Art], the Arboretum, Bison Paddock, and Paddle boats are all worth a look and watch the sun go down over the Pacific over a drink or dinner at the Beach Chalet.
6. Chinatown, the most densely populated portion of San Francisco offers an abundance of shopping, food and unique architecture found outside of Asia. The best place to buy souvenirs to take home to friends and family.
7. North Beach, traditionally the Italian section of the city which has no beach but abounds in quaint shops, great restaurants and The City’s best coffee options.
8. Civic Center, the largest collection of Beaux Arts buildings in the US. Home to San Francisco City Hall, with a dome larger than the US Capital, the Asian Art Museum and the Modern San Francisco Library with its San Francisco History Room housing an eclectic collection of city artifacts and photographs.
9. Buena Vista Gardens, this urban park is home to the Museum of Modern Art the Museum of The African Diaspora, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the Metreon it will keep you entertained for hours.
10. Twin Peaks, see The City and the bay spread out at your feet. Especially captivating at night when the lights seem to go on for ever.
